Sunday Prayer

This is from the Iona Community, and is a modern version of the Lord’s Prayer

LIVING WISDOM

God in heaven,
your name is to be honoured.
May your new community of hope
be realised on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today the essentials of life.
Release us from our wrongdoing
as we also release those who wrong us.
Do not test us beyond our enduring;
save us from all that is evil.
For you embrace justice, love and peace,
now and to the end of time, Amen,

    Beautiful. Thank you.

  2. Thankyou. If we must have an alternative to the original, this is the one for me.

  3. Lyn says:

    That’s very nice. Thank you!

    A truly moving version.

  5. LC says:

Thanks for sharing this version. Modern language is needed for understanding. But I have to say, the prayer from the KJV is still the one that makes my heart sing!

  6. Anne Gibert says:

In New Zealand the prayer book has been revised and even the Lord’s prayer has been changed. I found that jarring. I like the version in this post, but I find the old words to be the most comforting in the end. Those are the ones I can’t remember learning, I just seem to have always known them.
