Harvest Moon

B2014 HarvestmoonIt is so beautiful to see the moon clearly in Dalamory – mainly because it is quite rare.

It was the monthly visit of A with the Library Van today. I get a lorry load of books to the door and get to order up books I’ve read about from reviews and recommendations. I was musing with A that presumably with all the cuts in spending, the mobile library would be discontinued. Not so it seems, as the Local Authority have ordered up a new van. Good news indeed.

Ever since we have lived in Argyll – that’s since 1997 – I have had the privilege of using the library-on-wheels. The driver-librarians are not only good at driving a massive vehicle and knowledgeable about books and reading; they also are gifted at chatting with people. It pains me to say it, but I am now of the elderly generation, though there are those even older than me who are housebound, and they are able to have books brought actually into their homes. The librarian chooses what each person is likely to enjoy. All of this shows a caring attitude that makes me feel better about local government.

A good day then, overall. Hope yours was too.

    Lovely pearlescent clouds 🙂

Politics is funny – local can be nice to know. Larger-scale, one tends to see a faceless bureaucracy.

I’m glad to hear your mobile library is alive and kicking despite your isolated location Freda.
Libraries are so very valuable but more and more people are apparently reading online which bodes ill for the service they offer.
I joined my first library at the age of 7 and have never known a time when I had fewer than 2 or three books at home.
Now at the age of 79 I really dread that libraries may become a forgotten facility in my declining years.
Long live the written word say I.

Lets us hope that bookmobiles are around for a long, long, time!

Good to hear a nice word for Local Government……… Keep reading and keep the librarian in a job.

Your photograph of the harvest moon is so beautiful. I am wondering why it is rare…..is it rare to see a harvest moon in particular, or a moon at all? These things fascinate me.

Your mobile library sounds like a marvelous service. We call them bookmobiles in our area. To my knowledge, they do not function in quite the helping and individualized manner as yours. Very impressive.

I have not blogged for over a month. Need to “get cracking” as my mother used to say!

How wonderful to have such a caring local government.

Your community must be a wonderful place to live . . . and age.
