Quiet Easter

An enforced quieter Easter than expected. HBTW and myself had tummy troubles. It meant that we could not go to church and I felt the loss of that yesterday. However, a radio service helped a bit, though it could not entirely make up for losing out on being with others of our local Christian community. Being a Christian is about doing it together with others. Today I have been thinking about all the little churches throughout the country areas in Scotland. My own training prior to being ordained, was mainly in large town congregations. There were people and children of all ages and lots of activities going on. Once I became a Minister, I served mainly in smaller places. All along I had known that these were the places where it felt as if I was meant to be.

I suppose what I am trying to do is to say thank you to all those who make it possible for there to be local churches. In our own area, our Minister has to travel thousands of miles each year, taking multiple Sunday services and going to meetings far from home. Other leaders in rural churches fill in where possible and give of their time and energy. But none of this would be possible without financial support from people of large congregations in towns and cities. They help towards rural costs. So thanks to our local helpers and thanks to those who share their wealth with us.

A good thought for an Easter weekend – the church national, is a community in the widest sense of the word. Up till now I have deliberately avoided commenting on the troubles that are besetting the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world. I shall simply add the hierarchy and those people who have been damaged by their system, to the prayer list. It is not enough, but it is all I have to offer.

What a smell!

Madam Misty Marshall found something horrible to roll in. My suspicion is geese poo or duck poo or some kind of poo. She has now been duly doctored with baby talc and has taken to her bed.

News

Good news and bad news. The bad? My hairdresser has a bad cold. Good news? She managed not to sneeze on me. As to the haircut…..well, the proof of a haircut is what happens when it is washed by the wearer. So I shall reserve judgement.

Weather Report

No snow here, at least not at our level – the mountains and hills have a good smattering. Yesterday was a howling gale with horizontal sleet in temperatures just above freezing. Then, last night there was a 5hr power cut. That meant hunting out candles and togging up in snowy fleece pj’s, thick bedsocks and retiring to bed with the dog for warmth. How wonderful to find that the electricity (and therefore heat) is back on today. I am grateful for the hardy souls who have to venture out in such horrid conditions, to mend cables etc. All around, according to the weather map, is heavy snow. Thankfully, I can stay home and play catch-up with new Mac.

Excitement in the country

What excitement over the last few days. The proper birthday treat arrived – a stunningly pretty iMac. I am in the process of transferring information, documents, music and photos from the old computer. Not always as straightforward as it might be. Thanks to the iphone, I had grown accustomed to itunes, and thought all I needed to do was to synch said iphone and my music would automatically transfer. Not so, as Apple Help informed me, the music copyright lobby does not allow the synching of iphones to more than one computer – even when the old computer is no longer in use. The problem was compounded because my old machine is a pc – though I suspect there would still be jiggery pokery mac to mac. Hence I search the net looking for ways and means and every so often realise I don’t understand a word of what I have read.

One thing I am sure of…….. it will all be worth it in the end. And I am sure it is good exercise for the brain cells.

Another treat

It is raining today and consequently there is a whole flock of siskins at the bird feeders. Their colours are stunning – from grey/green to bright yellow.

Definitely a Birthday-Month-Treat.

Good news

Just got news that the Tinies (and their parents) are coming to visit soon. That counts for a birthday month or post-birthday-month treat.
