3. Going to Church doesn't make you a Christian, any more than going to a garage makes you a mechanic.
I want to say “Ah but……” to this one…..Ever the minister I suppose.

Here beginnieth a series…….25 Wise Sayings. (Pinched from the Camping and Caravanning Journal!)
1. If you're too open minded, your brains will fall out.
Enjoy the earth gently,
Enjoy the earth gently;
For if the earth is spoiled
it cannot be repaired.
Enjoy the earth gently.

It has been a busy few days with Son No 4 and fiancee here to stay, then with friends arriving for a meal last night….. Where did all the years go?
Happy memories shared and glimpses of how we were through the eyes of others.
A good time, but I find myself rather tired. Recovery time needed!

A happy picture. Here is No 3 Son and his gold medal.
Well done Rab!
In the face of the hatred and evil at the root of today's bombings in London what can one say? It is too horrible for words, so I'll leave that to those used to public utterance. Instead, I'll concentrate on being quiet and praying for everyone affected.
The big news (apart from the London 2012 Olympics!) is that Rab has won a gold medal in the tenpin bowling team event at the Special Olympics. Great excitement from all and sundry, and resulting in much running about the country for medals ceremonies etc…..
Today is shaping up to be another typical busy day in the life of retirees. There is the dog to take to the vet – she has developed a sore patch on her back; then there is the hedge to cut, the campervan to wash and bits of paperwork to do. I keep asking myself when I ever had time to work.
The G8 disruptions have not affected us over here in the West, but it is quite frightening seeing scenes of violence on the TV. Why do people not realise that it is not just the eight leaders and their entourages who have to bear the brunt of decisions about poverty, globalisation, trade and global warming? If we want to see a difference it is going to mean we have to accept higher taxes and slightly less of everything. We are the ones who will have to change. For many people it is easier to rant about the politicians; they conveniently forget that we elect them.

This distance-shot gives an idea of the size of the West of Scotland Team at the Special Olympics opening ceremony. Don't be fooled into thinking the spectators formed a small crowd; remember this is Celtic Park with a capacity of 60,000. There were actually around 20,000 of us there and we filled a whole long side up into the Gods. Gey windy too!
I am still bowled over (sorry for the tenpin bowling pun – not intended I assure you.) Anyway, I am amazed at the organisation, commitment and dedication required to assemble and look after 2,500 athletes. The support workers are mainly volunteers and for sheer stamina they deserve a medal themselves.
Yesterday Him Behind the Wheel went to the Special Olympics, at Glasgow to be the team supporter for Scotland West and Rab. Today, both of us went together with Son No 1 and his family, so we made a very vocal party! The atmosphere is great and the team spirit is very much in evidence. Today was doubles and tomorrow is the team event.
The Special Olympics motto is Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. There is a lot to learn from all of this and we are enjoying the whole thing tremendously. Glasgow will never be the same and neither will we.
