Health Reports

Misty’s eyes are no longer green – they are being soothed twice daily with nice eye drops. Easy peasy, in case you are wondering; the secret is chocolate drops. Bug the Jack Russell is a bit blackened thanks to eating the fire gauntlet glove. The hens are laying well and the horses are happy. Incidentally, it has not been necessary to hunt out the fly-preventing fringes. Thank goodness.

As for the humans. Well…….we survive. The salty sailors are due home today and no doubt the animals will have much to tell them!

Don’t it make her brown eyes green

Misty had a trip to the vet today. This is becoming a regular yearly occurrence at Good Life Farm. Two problems today: 1) slightly weepy eyes; and 2) a dry rash. The vet put special drops in the wee dog’s eyes to check for scratches on the cornea. The alarming thing was that the fluid turned the eyes green – rather like special effects in a horror movie. The outcome was that there are now drops to apply twice daily – clear not green – and a special shampoo. The latter will have to wait till we are back at Dalamory, it is too difficult for the age-challenged here.

In case you are interested, the horses have been galloping about a lot today, as if to improve on yesterday’s game of let’s frighten the life out of that old couple!

Tales of the Good Life

There are two horses here at the Good Life farm: one is a large grey called Ellie and the other, strictly speaking is a brown pony called Bee. The pony has to be constantly restrained by an electric fence, otherwise she eats too much. But Ellie has a better trick. She lies flat out on her side: the game is that the horseminders have to shout “Ellie are you alive?” Then she raises her head and everybody can breathe again.

A question of size

One of the problems of being in charge of The Good Life is that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between a large mouse and a small rat. I have decreed they are all morats.

North coast outing

Went to Banff and Macduff yesterday – principally to go to the petshop. Bug the dug is so hyperactive on a walk that the only answer is an expandable lead. Banff is a mixture of modernity and old style squalor. Yes – there is no other word for tacky gift shops, boarded up pubs and an emporium that has to be seen to be believed. A veritable tardis in which one gets lost amongst racks of cheap wetsuits and unbelievably bad fake flowers. The experience was made worse when upon making a bid for freedom out of an open firedoor, I was stopped by an officious employee declaring that this was not the way out. I pleaded illness; anyone would feel ill after being trapped by shoddy merchandise and dozy customers.

Then there is the other side to Banff. A project at the harbour and modern marina is well above standard. There is even a webcam online where you can see the glories of the town!

A sermon worth listening to

If you have fifteen minutes to spare and are interested in the church, worldwide as well as Anglican, have a listen here.

Incidentally it will help if you note that the stories of Jacob wrestling with the angel of God and Jesus and the feeding of the 5000 are the lectionary readings of the day.

Long suffering dog

The tale is about Bug today. In case you have forgotten she is an eighteen month old Jack Russell terrier, given houseroom by Son#2 and family. We are on animal duty at present (horses, cats, dogs, hens, ducks etc) and time came to take the four dogs out for a walk. All was well with our own cairn terrier and the big black lab and elderly one (dog…..not me, of course!) But what a performance getting the harness on Bug. For a few minutes it looked as if she was not going to get a walk at all – however, patience paid off and she was duly inserted into the harness and able to walk. A previous false-fastening had her limping pathetically and looking with deep brown eyes as only a Jack Russell can look. Then what does she do? Misbehaves by chasing cows.

Ah well, tomorrow is another day. And a Sunday is a good day to try to be calm and in control.

By the way

Yes – this is prompted by Son #1 who wanted to know why some comment on a son being 40 was not mentioned on yesterday’s posting. Perhaps that is because it is too difficult to remember how I used to think. When I visited parishioners who had children of forty and over, I have to admit I thought the said parishioners ancient. Oh no! It has come back to haunt me. On the other hand, life is not so bad this side of the divide. One can choose to act dopey to get away with things, or on the other hand it is possible to pretend to still be able to climb the odd Munro or two.

As for me – I am enjoying putting my feet up and reading the latest holiday romance.

Ipod and podcasts

I may be catching up late, but I am doing my best. All the new technology has been taking a lot of getting used to. Podcasts are gradually becoming more familiar, as a term at least, and I vaguely understand that an rss feed will deliver a regular programme or podcast to my PC for onward transfer to the ipod.

That is the theory. Have I done anything about it yet?
Of course not.

Bug the Dug

Visiting Bug this week. She is Misty-sized but our little madam is not so keen on any other dog vying for the cuteness stakes.
