This distance-shot gives an idea of the size of the West of Scotland Team at the Special Olympics opening ceremony. Don't be fooled into thinking the spectators formed a small crowd; remember this is Celtic Park with a capacity of 60,000. There were actually around 20,000 of us there and we filled a whole long side up into the Gods. Gey windy too!
I am still bowled over (sorry for the tenpin bowling pun – not intended I assure you.) Anyway, I am amazed at the organisation, commitment and dedication required to assemble and look after 2,500 athletes. The support workers are mainly volunteers and for sheer stamina they deserve a medal themselves.
