Hairdresser

Getting my hair cut is the excitement for the day. What pearls of wisdom will I hear today? Nothing beats the Hitch your bum up….. during the hair-washing exercise on one occasion. Though it has to be said that all of Oban’s worthies are regularly discussed and analysed. Me? I just try to keep quiet and out of mischief.

Writing

Found in my journal of six years ago…… I write to understand and to be understood…. Cannot remember where I heard it, can only wish whimsically that it was original. Anyway, it is true of blogging as much as other forms of writing.

Stress

Him Behind the Wheel took Misty to have her stitches out today and to get her anti-rabies injection. She was sick and he collapsed with a sore head.

Me? Well, I am glad I stayed at home.

Foundations

Day by day this past week I have watched the development of the foundations for the extension. A huge trench is dug, then accurate measuring strings are put in place with complicated-looking wooden supports, then concrete and gravel are poured to make a level after which the found walls are laid to include breathing bricks and drains. Eventually, the whole lot is in-filled and a sand and gravel base is now ready and waiting for a final screed of concrete prior to the joiners starting.

Makes a whole lot of sense of the parable about building a house on strong foundations. I am amazed at the skill and sheer number of hours of painstaking work.

Call me Plebeian

Call me plebeian if you like but I have been thoroughly enjoying The Amazing Mrs Pritchard on BBC TV. An ordinary supermarket manager ends up as Prime Minister. Silly it may be, but there is a streak of realism running through it which somehow rings true. The Telegraph thinks the electorate is more savvy, I am not so sure. Many people are fed up with the wranglings of politics; and they do feel remote from the actual decisions as to priorities in government. Yes – even in Scotland, where devolution was supposed to do great things.
