Loving

Just occasionally, I write something in my journal that is worthwhile. This is about how love is important.

…….Hang on to loving.
Loving family and friends.
Loving life and relationships.
Loving animals and home.
Loving God.
Loving life.
Loving myself.
Loving past, present and future.

Love is redemptive.
Love is healing.
Love and loving is life.

Toad Hall

Letting Misty out at night has become fraught with difficulties. The back door is currently out of action, so she has to go out the front which necessitates a nifty piece of ballet (from me not her) to get the security light to come on. Then we have to check whether or not Miss Toad is lurking. If she is, there is a lot of shouting from me, and admirable self-control from Miss doggin. I would like to take a photograph, but as it is usually dark it is probable that it would not be a success.

Also, what is the guarantee that the toad would not be in Misty’s grasp before I got back. There has been enough nasty footage in the media this week, what with the pelican and the pigeon in St James’s park.

Walk

Took the dog for a walk in the wind and horizontal rain – it all reminded me of living in the Western Isles long long ago. Was it worth all the puffing and peching? Well, since we came home, Misty has done nothing much but bark crossly at the wind. It is as if she blames it for all the noise.

Talents

A talent grows by being used, and withers if it is not used…..

Don’t know where that thought is going, but it came from May Sarton.

The Queen Mother

Have just finished the Hugo Vickers biography of the Queen Mother. It was a compelling read, though I am left with a sense of otherness about a life lived in such privilege and duty. What it does show, is that each of us needs a purpose in life, though for many people it is about earning a living to make ends meet. Anyway, I heartily recommend the book for anyone who is interested in famous lives.

Language

I get fed up with jargon. Years ago, someone started saying At this moment in time….and now you hear it everywhere. I suppose it has come to mean more than “now”. After that there was NGO or local government speak……best value and best practice were the buzzwords of the day. The latest? Well, I am driven mad at the number of times I read or hear some worthy soul claiming that something is or isn’t fit for purpose.

That is another little rant over.

Long long ago

Many years ago I was visiting an old (very old) lady in a nursing home. Her son, who was in his seventies, had just died. I wondered how I could ever find words of comfort. Instead, she gave me a lesson, she told me of her sorrow, but also of her faith and she quoted Micah 6:8 to me. It covers all situations in life.

This is what Yahweh asks of you, only this:
   to live justly,
     to love tenderly,
and to walk humbly with your God.

Going further

I was moved to phone BT Customer Services to complain about my difficulties with their Indian Call Centre yesterday. The sweat and frustration made me quite determined on it. Philip was a model of understandable speech and soothing apologies. It also transpired that I was not alone in my concerns. Their Broadband Queries are being moved back to the UK, though I was not given a date.

At that rate, perhaps I don’t need to start an internet campaign.

To rant or not to rant

Now should I rant on about the broadband connection problems I have been experiencing today? This ultimately included speaking to Veechee and Halidah……both of whom sounded as if they were speaking through a glass tank and neither of whom I could understand properly. To be fair, they did each slow down and repeat things when asked. But neither was able to grasp that a system which had previously been working was not likely to suddenly have developed its own in-hardware fault. In the event, one of them diagnosed a line test as being “inconclusive” and agreed to report the matter to the line fault dept. One hour later I have a connection.

Now the point is, do I change to a supplier with a British based call centre (if I can find one)? Or do I be grateful that the elusive fault was fixed so promptly? It doesn’t help that this is the third time this has happened this year. I suppose at least I can now research online for other options for broadband suppliers. Life used to be so simple.
