Not that Dalamory is any worse than anywhere else in the west of Scotland for midgies, but the current state of the wee beasties brings to mind this memory of long ago.
Long, long ago….when we lived in the Western Isles one of my young sons was getting exasperated at his play being interrupted by flocks of the biting insects. The Health Visitor, good Christian that she was, came to call one day. She frightened all of us by the way. The young lad, thinking to get one over on her said, “Why did God make midgies?” With never a pause in her ministrations to the youngest sproggit on her knee, she turned to the questioner, fixed him with a stern eye and said firmly, “Because we're ALL SINNERS!”
Now that is something to ponder on a bright Monday morning.
