Him Behind the Wheel has got a new toy and it has turned into a whole new hobby. The toy is a coffee maker. This means that a cup of coffee is no longer a case of spooning coffee into a cup and adding boiling water and a touch of milk. Nowadays it requires a whole lot of planning, fiddling and faffing. First the machine has to be clean, then the beans are added to an electric grinder and rendered into powder. After that the ground coffee is measured, tamped down with a special tool and clipped into place under the correct nozzle (this bit is very important to avoid boiling water and steam being shunted all over the kitchen.) Thereafter, 200mls of water is measured into the chamber and the start button is depressed. (By now in the process I would be depressed too.) The steam blasts through the ground coffee into the jug below. If hot milk is to be frothed there is a built-in frothing paddle. At long last……a mug of coffee appears. The proud operative insists it tastes better.
As for me – well, I don’t like it anyway. Too strong.
