Birthday month again

The Birthday month is officially back on track as from today. I am now 66 and can hardly believe it. In fact I see my Granny’s face in front of me with a cheeky grin on it, saying – If you’re as guid as me when you’re sixty-seeven….. and I think, how can I be nearly there?  This is the 67th year. Never mind, I am feeling better than I was a week or so ago and can now plan some birthday treats. The first is to declare that this year there will definitely have to be a post-birthday-month of celebrations, to make up for the shortfall.  The next will be to spend my amazon voucher.

Gearing up

The outside temperature has risen into double figures. It’s time to look out lighter clothes. Oh dear – how could I have left things in such a muddle?  I shall have to gear myself up for a grand fitting out – like a liner. Sometimes I feel like an ocean liner – stately, majestic, steady on the water. Well I refuse to think of myself as rounding out into the space of a rubber beach ball. A large beach ball at that.

Perhaps that is enough effort for one day. Thinking about the spring wardrobe and trying things on to see what will fit is exhausting enough.

Piano Tuner

Today’s excitement is the piano tuner arriving to tune said piano.  The tuning results in a not unpleasant sound – mainly because our tuner obviously has good hearing. In days of yore when I was but a young, winsome lass (as if….) we had a rather deaf gentleman who arrived regularly to thump on the keys constantly, driving everyone in the house mad. It probably drove half the street up the wall. I have never been able to make much sense of pitch and whether a piano is off key or whatever. Perhaps that explains my mediocre performance at the keys. In recent times I have not been playing or practicing much; I could make the excuse that the dog mithers me to play games with her instead, but in truth, I have found it more and more difficult. The notes seem to undergo some sort of transition as they are filtered through my brain and into my hands.

That is my excuse anyway.
Of course it could also be laziness.

New stamps

Got a card in the post yesterday (Yes – for today) and the stamp was of a cute rescue dog from Battersea Dogs’ Home. Check out the stamps here. I even soaked the envelope off the stamp, so you could say I have been collecting stamps again. About time. Too much reading and TV!

Geese poo

Surveying

It was a beautiful day today here in Dalamory. Temperature of 12C in the sunshine, so I had a walk round the garden to survey the damage done by the deer and the extraordinarily cold winter. The plants have been hit badly. The deer have eaten anything remotely edible, including ivy and prickly holly. Some of the bushes – lilac, pieris etc – are showing signs of buds swelling, others look decimated. Just as well a special offer leaflet has arrived from a local plant centre – 10% off – though to be honest it will probably be the end of next month before we can even think of planting anything.
