Tackling the filing cabinets

In my study are a number of filing cabinets. At present there are five of the two-drawer variety. As my new study is not much more than half the size of this one, that means I have to dispose of half of everything more or less. Which files and folders will go I wonder? The other thought that comes to mind is that around twenty years ago we were promised the paperless office. This was to be as the result of the newest innovation of electronic mail.

All I can say to that is – Huh!

How long?

So how long will it take to scan our whole collection of slides? I am only on box 3 at the moment, and there are well over a dozen. It seems worthwhile to cut down on space and it gives a whole load of laughs along the way.

Did I really wear skirts that short?
Did Him Behind the Wheel really have sideburns that long?
And did we both wear flares?

Stamp Box

More thanks today – this time to the friend who has donated his childhood collection of stamps. I would never have believed that sorting through old treasures could be so relaxing. Much needed this week to lower the blood pressure.

House for a new beginning

I can't quite decide how to report the good news of our future home. It is the house we wanted at Dalmally. An ideal place because it is handy for Oban and No 3 son, whilst being a lot nearer Nos 1,2 and 4 and all the respective grandchildren. I want to say thank you to God, but without sounding mushy. To hang with it – I shall just be mushy. After all, it is a bungalow with a view….what more could we ask for?

Good news travels fast; we are going to measure up for furniture and curtains etc., (lots will need to be disposed of) – and already we have an extra invitation to have lunch. Now I just need the church to catch up with its paperwork and set an official retiral date.

There have been 3760 “hits” on the blog in January.
A record….and a great encouragement to keep on blogging!

Cyber Collecting

I have come across a website devoted to collecting virtual reality stamps. I am not quite sure how it works or who gets the money (they are not all free by any means)……but it is not the same as pouring over orignal stamps with a magnifying glass trying to identify the countries.

What next? Virtual Reality religion? Though perhaps some would say most people are content with a virtual god anyway.

Work Trays

At last the paperclog in the work-trays has been cleared. Though that is only the two trays at the side of the desk; there are a further six trays elsewhere. How do I decide what is current, what can be filed in the bin and what is to be passed onto others?

With determination – it is the only way.

The Presence of God

As I sit here, the beating of my heart,
the ebb and flow of my breathing, the movements of my mind
are all signs of God's ongoing creation of me.
I pause for a moment, and become aware
of this presence of God within me.

From Sacred Space Jesuit Communication Centre, Ireland

May you be aware of God with you this day.

Friday Evening Viewing

What I want to know is this. Who is more camp – Colin and Justin or Alan Titchmarsh?

Actually I enjoyed watching both programmes. However, I suspect that gardening and house decor are more interesting to watch than to do. The temptation is to think that one can do the big gardening project and the redecoration. And all before tea.

House for Sale

There is a house we are interested in and the closing date for offers is next Monday – 31st January. I am tempted to ask all those who pray to pray, and all those who cross fingers to cross toes as well. Then I find myself starting to ask what kind of God I believe in. Perhaps there is someone else praying for their offer to be accepted, perhaps their need is greater than mine. Then I realise that the only competent prayer is the one that asks for God's will to be done.

But I can't help saying PS – Lord, I really would like that house!
