Flaming June

Lord of flaming June
flame the desire of your love in me.
Lord of sunny days
sun into my soul in hope.
Lord of longer light
light my mind with your insight.
Lord of song and dance
sing in every sinew,
dance with me through this life in delight.

(Written in tribute to the John Travolta film – Michael – about an angel.)

Latest ploy

The latest episode in the midge-saga is that we have placed a substantial item on ebay. If it sells, we may well get a midgebuster. Apparently, they work by being attractive to the female of the species, which is the biting one!

Watch this space for further instalments.

Surprises!

Couldn't blog about it yesterday as the element of surprise was crucial. We are through at our eldest son's helping to look after grandchildren while he treated his wife to a rare evening out.

Being in the campervan again makes me look forward to further trips later in the summer.

Presbytery

Went to Presbytery yesterday – my first in well over a year. For those who don't know the workings of the Church of Scotland, it is the area meeting where ministers and representatives of congregations get together to make decisions. It was good to meet up with people and to hear at first hand the goings on in Argyll. To be honest, the social encounter with others was what was most important to me. I have yet to find my role as a retired minister.

For today it is all about recovering…..though we have a little adventure planned…

Spelling

I am told that dogs can learn around 25 words. I'm not sure how many words they can spell. We have long had to avoid W-A-L-K……. so switched to perambulation. Trouble is, she can recognise that too. How long before she can spell it?

Parasol time

Summer has come back – 22.5C yesterday, so the garden chairs and parasol are out. All ready for breaks in between chores. The cat has successfully learnt how to use the new cat flap in the front door. Wonderful! No getting wakened at four in the morning.

The Midge

Not that Dalamory is any worse than anywhere else in the west of Scotland for midgies, but the current state of the wee beasties brings to mind this memory of long ago.

Long, long ago….when we lived in the Western Isles one of my young sons was getting exasperated at his play being interrupted by flocks of the biting insects. The Health Visitor, good Christian that she was, came to call one day. She frightened all of us by the way. The young lad, thinking to get one over on her said, “Why did God make midgies?” With never a pause in her ministrations to the youngest sproggit on her knee, she turned to the questioner, fixed him with a stern eye and said firmly, “Because we're ALL SINNERS!”

Now that is something to ponder on a bright Monday morning.

Sunday Prayer

Thank you Lord for the gentle rain
the soft, pure water of life.
Thank you Lord for the misty air
soothing a song into the bubbling stream.
Thank you Lord of this day and Lord of creation.
You enlivon each breath and fill each element, plant and animal
with the dance of life.
Your dance
Your song.
Amen

Proof

Fuzzy stagHere is the stag – a trifle fuzzy as if the photograph has been cobbled together. I assure you he is real, and not a little put out at being disturbed on his early morning grazing routine.

Being in Dalamory is like having one's own Wildlife Watch.

Book sales

The book sales via the Amazon Associates programme have slowed down slightly. Three a week seems to be the average. But there is still a degree of excitement in wrapping the book, posting it off and waiting for the earnings to arrive. Not that I would ever make a fortune….that is for the stuff of fairy tales and blockbuster novels. Come to think of it, when am I going to finish my blockbuster?
