Busy days

Went to visit baby Sarah again yesterday, so cannot resist showing you a photograph of her with myself.  In case there is any doubt, Sarah is the one about to doze off, though I must admit I feel a bit like that myself today after all the travelling yesterday. We are in for a day without electricity as there is a new sub-station being installed at Dalamory. Life is never dull. We shall probably camp out in the campervan in the driveway, or maybe go to Oban and bother No 3 son.

I don’t want to believe this

The Scotsman today had a tiny paragraph telling of how a 10ft snake had eventually been caught in a block of flats in Manchester. Apparently it had been on the loose for 3 months and was prone to popping up through people's lavatory bowls. I didn't want to believe it so did a search online.

Check it out for yourself at:

The view

In case you are interested, this is one of Dana's favourite walks.
She generally gets herself into the river sooner or later.

Spam running amok

What a tale of BT and their spam filter and its over-zealousness.

It transpires that for some unknown or not understood (by me at least) reason BT have been putting more and more of my email into a bulk mail tip. I only discovered today and have spent ages sorting it out. It seems to be OK now, but if you were by any chance waiting for word from me then could you please try again. I promise you it is not senility – more like stupidity, and I'm pretty sure it was more BT's than mine. Though they would probably disagree.

The Life

Robin crashed out after our walk with the dog yesterday.
But look at the weather for October. Magic.
It was just like being on an autumn holiday in Scotland, except it was warm.

Watering the Roots

Yesterday, I read something which made me sit up and take notice.

You have to water the roots of love…..

In retirement I am becoming more and more aware of the roots of God's love. These last six months have been a roller-coaster of emotions. Sometimes I have felt bereft of my work as a minister; sometimes I have rejoiced in being free of work; at others there has been a kind of limbo and confusion. However, through it all has been the steady beat of God's heart telling me that I am loved just as I am. The same is true for all of us. God loves us as we are – we don't need to change first, we simply have to be.

A good thought for a Sunday as I get ready to go to church!

Natural or not?

I quite fancied buying some flowers in Oban yesterday and was attracted to some beautiful pink daisies. In the end something about the startling colour put me off. It just didn't look natural.

Perverse or what?

Recovering

Early in August my car was parked in Oban with Him Behind the Wheel  behind the wheel reading a newspaper. Suddenly he was catapulted out of whatever he was reading by the car behind which misjudged the distance and bent the back end of my car. All was dealt with in a civilised manner – after all the driver of the other vehicle was French and on holiday in a hire car. In due time my claim was progressed and the repair completed all in good order. So far so good. (I take it you are still with me?) Now it begins to get complicated. I have a policy with protected no claim discount and legal fees cover, thus it is the company's job to recover my ?120 excess from the third party insurers. Having been an insurance professional for more than half my working life I know that these things take time. Time has now passed.

Today on my list for the day was “Phone re recovery of excess”……It has taken me five telephone calls to five different people with interesting names and accents to establish that they are in fact attempting recovery from Hertz Car Rental on my behalf. This was from someone in the “Recoveries Dept”.

I managed to maintain my patience – just.
But now it is me that needs to recover.

Flu vaccination

To the doctor's for a flu vaccination this morning. She suggested I might like to make much of it to get out of the daily chores. Now that is the kind of GP one wants to have!
