The look

Just because I like the colour…

Busy Day

Lots of business type things to do today. It has meant phoning to change medical appointments, chase up deliveries, to cancel motor insurance and take out a policy with a new insurer. When I told the new ones that I was fed up with foreign call centres and poor service from my existing company, the new people said they heard it all the time.

And spring has returned – even the grown-up daffodils are just about in bloom, and the dog has decided she likes better weather to enable her to patrol the garden in comfort.

Mini-daffs

web-minidaffs.jpgThese are mini-daffs but they give maxi-pleasure.

I have been reading Dorothy Wordsworth’s diary and am impressed all over again with her poetic prose. So instead of quoting her brother’s A host of golden daffodils, here is Dorothy’s take on it.

….I never saw daffodils so beautiful, they grew among the mossy stones about and about them, some rested their heads upon these stones as on a pillow for weariness and the rest tossed and reeled and danced and seemed as if they verily laughed with the wind that blew upon them over the lake, they looked so gay ever glancing ever changing.

Happy daffodil to you.

Spring was here

In amongst the flurries of snow, it is comforting to think that Spring was indeed here last week.

Sick Day

I have spoken before about Monday still being my Day Off and how odd that is in the context of retirement. Today I am having a Sick Day (sore glands and throat) so that is even more strange. How do I cope? Sleep twice as long I suspect. Preferably with a dog on my knee.

A blessing

May the Spirit of God be the wind that blows free in you, the water that refreshes you, the fire that warms you.

Moody everything

A photograph to match those dark days we all get. Especially appropriate for St Patrick’s day, because he knew all about bad times as well as good. In his early life he was a slave. How salutory to remember that it took till 1807 before slavery was outlawed in the then “civilised” world.

It is official

Spring is really here – a pair of chiff chaffs are back in Glenorchy. Marvellous sight, one to lift the spirits.

Access

We now have access from our back door, which happens to be the main door of the house. The joiners came yesterday as promised. They made a lot of noise with drills and saws and nail guns, and the result was that we now have the basis for a floor on the extension. The bad news is that we also have a temporary set of steps to enable us to get in and out. This probably means there will be no more action for several months. However, no doubt all will unfold as the spring, and hopefully better weather, arrives.

Joiner #1 says we are very patient.  Joiner #2 just looks embarrassed.

Promises, promises

There is a promise of builders this morning……unless it rains.
