Understanding

O Lord, help me not to despise or oppose what I do not understand.

A brace of mice

Yesterday was happy feet day – the regular visit of the chiropodist. But happier still were the feet that did not tread on the mouse of the night. Fox has obviously found a regular supply of rodents and wants to share his bounty with us.

But I have to admit to being horrified that there was another mouse last night, laid carefully between the bedroom and the bathroom where unsuspecting bare feet are to be treated to the horrors of dead animal fur on feet. Yuck! Thankfully, Him Behind the Wheel did the necessary although he failed to spare me the details of it being half a mouse that time.

Sometimes I wonder why I keep a cat. Then I remember that he is a good patroller of the inside of the house too. I just need to get him to understand that dead presents of food can be left on the doorstep outside the house.

A happy sound

Not the two military helicopters powering down the valley, but the three oyster-catchers skimming over the water.

A sign of spring approaching.

Journey through Lent

Lent continues with magnificent weather; sunshine kissing the frost away where it touches. So it is quite strange to have a spiritual book giving the themes of Judge not so that you be not judged….. Never my favourite Bible passage.

Tell me, does it apply to getting cross at owners who don’t clear up after their dogs? My favourite walk is being spoiled by inconsiderate people who are either too lazy or too ignorant to comply with the law. I try to keep myself from losing my temper by remembering all the times I was inconsiderate with my pets; but that was many years ago. I know better now. Never mind, the sunshine today helps to keep the grumbles away.

How many miles again?

This time to get a newspaper – ten miles round trip. That is what it means to have the village shop suddenly closed. However, the Community Association have called a special meeting to try to work out some way of alleviating the situation – at least on a temporary basis.

Reach out

Reach out and touch the morning
Reach out and feel the breeze
Reach in and know the spirit
Holding, healing…….loving.

Big news

The village is all of a-twitter today, and it is not the birds making the noise. Our local village shop has suddenly closed with only a day’s notice. (And that notice was hidden away inside where people did not see it easily.) No-one is sure what has happened, though sadly the owners had been going through a marital split-up. It was a shop that appeared to be well supported in the local area; as well as being much appreciated by folks like me, it was a lifeline for older people without their own transport. I can adapt and do a more regular supermarket shop in the big town – 25 miles away, but I feel sorry for all those who have been totally reliant.

Everyone is hoping that “something will happen” and new owners will appear.  Meanwhile, it is back to rationing till I get to the town on Wednesday.
