Confession is good for the soul

OK – I confess it: I have been watching Wimbledon. Ideal conditions, drizzle here in Dalamory and fair down south. Nice to see Andy Murray win his first round match in three sets, but I still feel like shaking him. He doesn’t appear to be making the same effort as some of the top seeds.

Sorry if this post is gobbledygook to non tennis fans, but I was a fanatical player myself at one time. A couple of years ago I went on court with Him Behind the Wheel we both had nearly to crawl off. The competitive spirit never dies!

A Jewish parable

Wisdom indeed –
A young woman once said to an old woman, “What is life’s heaviest burden?” The old woman answered, “to have nothing to carry.”

You must be joking!

I am not joking in actual fact. There was another fire – this time Him Behind the Wheel set the microwave on fire trying to crisp up pork crackling. And no, I have not yet got around to buying the fire blanket and extinguishers. The worst bit this time was the awful smell. The blackened and creaking combination grill/micro/convection oven is now outside and it has been replaced with a pristine stainless steel job. Thank goodness electrical goods are one of the few things that seem to keep going down in price.

Majestic intruder

Letting Misty out at night can be quite an entertainment. Last night I opened the door and our 7 and a half kilo cairn came face to face with a full grown red stag – magnificent set of antlers as well. After a hesitant rumble in her throat, the little dog decided she was champion of the garden. High octave yapping ensued and the stag leaped over the fence. He was last seen making ihis getaway towards the hills. I am not sure if he felt defeated or just that the little barking menace, though beneath contempt, was also an unknown.

Of course it could just be that he is a regular visitor to the garden anyway and knows he should not be here nibbling our plants in the middle of summer.

More and more!

They tried to deliver yet another compost bin. It was generally agreed that as there are already three decorating the garden and rotting away, that a fourth was a bit over the top.

Back to front

Living in the country has lots of advantages; it has been so long since I lived in the city or suburbs that I cannot imagine my location being different. One of those strange things is that a Day Out can be into the heart of the urban sprawl. So yesterday it was: I and not me, and Know not now; Ever rather than never and Altogether not together

You got it! A trip to IKEA to stock up on some household items. Despite the rain and cold wind we had a good day out going by campervan. The gas heater was in use and there were walks for Misty and coffee for the grown-ups. Thus today, is about catching up on paperclog.

New every day

Next week we are due to go and see our 2yr old granddaughter in her dancing class concert. Apparently, this week she has been dressed up for rehearsals and to have photos taken. She thought it was the real thing and cannot understand that she has to do it all over again. What joy to be 2 and to have the thrill of every new day.

A Gothic Tale

Well it does sound a bit bleak to be laid out in a graveyard recovering from a fainting fit! But thus it was described to telephone callers by Him Behind the Wheel. It is not as bad as it sounds: I merely felt a bit woozy and sick near the end of this morning’s church service, so went outside for some fresh air. It just happens that the nearest grass is the old graveyard surrounding the church. I managed to come to enough to reassure the preacher it was not something he said, and to sign the Call (Church of Scotland jargon for the paper offering support to the newly elected minister.)

And yes, I am fine now thank you. I was grateful to have a quiet day with the Sunday papers.

Composting

Composting is the topic of the week in the Dalamory household. Thanks to a generous initiative by the Scottish Parliament (well Alex Salmond says they are,) it is possibile to have a compost bin delivered for a nominal sum. You contact your local authority website. Thus, an extra bin has been added to the two we already had. Along with it came a handy little book on the science of composting, which has been well thumbed and noted. Him Behind the Wheel is well into it – not the bin, but the art. The new flowerbeds are in for a treat in a few months. Watch this space for progress.
