Autumn

Meditation at autumn

Once upon an autumntide
long enough to grow…… into a yearly memory
a gift, a scene, a story….
Pictures you can view through the windows of your mind..

The trees all dressed in colours
and leaves upon the earth…..the colours bright,
and sharp and clear, sweet and muddy smells.
Cool lemon, hot red, sharp green and flaming orange,
glistening on the ground and rustling on the branch.

Houses wreathed in trails of mist,
gardens censed with peat or wood,
and from the clear, cool air above
a dog bark magnified and caught
upon the currents of nearly winter.

And every time you smell the smoke
or catch the cold upon your breath
whenever leaves dance before your eyes,
or when you hear a sound in silence…..
you know.

It is autumn.
A gift of time to remember
– to rest
– to grow
– to become your promised whole.

Amen

Update

What a busy week it has been. What with visitors, being away, coming back, watching the financial crisis unfold and so forth, there seems to have been little time for sitting at the computer. Best of all though has been the story about our dog and our cat. (Misty and Fox). Fox is 12yrs old now and believes he should be treated with respect. Misty, of course, thinks this is nonsense. So this week has been the battle of the two baskets.

Fox had taken to settling himself into Misty’s basket, much to Herself’s annoyance, so the answer seemed to be to buy a new bed – slightly smaller and made of fluffly sheepskin. One bed placed in the original place in the dining room, the old one in the sitting room. So which one has Fox decided is his by rights?

Both!

Raincoats

Misty wore her raincoat for the first time this autumn. It was indeed a dreich, wet walk. Still, that was better than the continual bleating for an outing. She does not actually like the rain very much, but her brain does not compute drizzle out of the window with a soggy walk. Never mind, it is supposed to be sunny tomorrow.

A right attitude

I like the Sunday Herald’s attitude towards the credit/financial crisis. Their correspondent suggested that whenever someone mentions the crisis, the thing to do is to hide behind the sofa, cover your ears with your hands and sing la-la-la very loudly.

As for me – well I am kind of adopting a “war baby’s” stance of going back to all the little economies my grandma knew so well. For her it was a matter of survival; for me it is about doing something for the planet and depriving the energy companies of revenue.

Autumn hints

Hint for all people who live in and around Dalamory this autumn. Go out with your little dogs into the garden to protect them from the rutting deer. The stags are making a lot of noise and Misty would not be able to chase them out of the garden in their current mood of posturing and prancing.

A Day in the country

It may seem silly when I already live in the country – nonetheless it makes for a pleasant break in routine to have a day in the country. Crieff to be exact.

An Inconvenient Truth

Watched the documentary on global warming and climate change – An Inconvenient Truth. It is presented in a compelling manner by Al Gore. Notwithstanding some possible disputed statistics, it is nowadays generally accepted that the present generation needs to address the problem of carbon dioxide emissions to ensure that future generations are able to live safely in the known world. The film needs to be viewed with the relevant articles which try to balance some of the hype, but it is clear to me that some political systems and individuals want to play it down. They complain of bias and schmaltz. (Cannot think of a better word – sorry.)

As for me, well I will try my best to recycle, switch off electrics and turn down the heating. And like the film suggests during the end credits “If you pray, then do so……” So I shall pray as best I can. And Oh yes, I am doing my bit to get people to watch it. But do it with an internet link to varying views or you might end up too shocked and scared.

Glorious Day

Here is a picture of me with the bride and groom at the wedding on Seil Island the other week. Reminds me of what an incredibly scenic place it was to live and work. Blessings to Catherine and Mark.

Apologies and age

Apologies for not getting the youtube link sorted out until this evening. Put it down to ageing or something. Talking of which, I haven’t seen much about the International Day of Older Persons as designated by the UN. And the day has more or less disappeared already. Ho hum.
