Getting things done

The good thing about having the dreaded lurgy is that one has to stay away from people. It is a good way to get the paperwork done.

Over the top

Is it excessive to have five journals on the go at one time? …. Daily Journal, Prayer Journal, Away Journal, Writing Journal and Reading as a Writer Journal.

It’s like being a real student.
Oh yes – and I have a notebook for quotations and a smaller one for meanings of unfamiliar words.

Crackling life

The Open University Course is crackling into life now. The students have all spent the past week getting used to the software, and now it is a case of doing things for real. Ongoing bits of work are due to be share with our “fellow writers.” ……. I liked that description.

A Buddhist Tale

Two monks were approaching a river where a beautiful young woman was waiting to cross. One monk ignored her, obeying the injunction of his master not even to look at a woman. The other, carried the woman on his shoulders, waded across the river and set her down on the other side, bowed and walked on. The first monk walked alongside him, clearly upset. A mile down the road he stopped, complained bitterly to the second monk about his behaviour. The secon monk looked baffled, said “The woman? I left her back at the river. Why are you still carrying her?”

Another good read

Have just finished reading Sepulchre by Kate Mosse. The library volume was a tome of a hardback some 540 pages long. It must have taken me till page 200 to get really hooked – and I had to read the first 100 pages twice. This was to get the time shifts and characters sorted out in my mind. However, it was well worth it. Most of the action is set near Carcassonne in the South of France – a favourite holiday spot.

Mosse creates intrigue with her two mystery stories which intermingle. She has created believable characters in both Victorian and modern times. In the end the book becomes a page-turner. If you like puzzles you will love this book.
