Hope and Mercy

This picture was sent to me by a blogging friend from Australia.
Apparently the koala is doing well, despite having bandaged paws
and has been introduced to a friend.

Being at Church

Managed to go to church this morning – the first time in five weeks. It was lovely to be there.

Other happy news is that I have passed both assignments of the OU writing course. The final overall mark comes out next month. It has been good to think about the style and mechanics of writing fiction and there is plenty to think about.

Valentine’s Day

Of course I have to write about Valentine’s day – and it is a lot easier than trying to speak to a whole Primary School, which happened one year. I wish I had stuck to the routine of who or what do we love? After all the idea of a festival to be thankful for loved ones is no bad thing. Unfortunately, the day has become one of oneupmanship – How many Valentine cards did you get?

Better also than the Times journalist who had a half page rant about how he hated dogs and that all dogs should be shot. He had some pretty scathing anti-class comments about the owners of certain kinds of dogs as well. Cannot give you a link as the online version of the paper has had the sense not to include the article. He is right in one sense, and that is that dogs and their behaviour is the responsibility of their owners. Even in this quiet corner of Scotland I get annoyed at dog dirt. Dogs cannot help it, but owners should pick it up.

Enough of a rant. I need to get my brain back onto the positivity of love.

Empty apologies

Like many others I am sickened by the empty apologies of the four ex-bankers yesterday at the Select Committee. Many years ago in another life I was an insurance broker. I was incensed, yet helpless to stop the behaviour of the local branches of one of the well known banks. Pressure had been put upon a client to move his business to the bank, so that his overdraft facilities were secure.  As far as I am concerned this was the start of the insatiable greed that has led to the collapse of our banking system.

Having got that off my chest I shall try not to get angry at how the banks charge for every letter and phone call. There is a cartoon in the Times today that says it all. A man is opening a letter from the bank on which is printed “you are charged £35 for this letter of apology.

Interesting visitors

We had Bonnie and Valentine to visit yesterday.
Just as well it was only for a short while –
Misty thought she was seeing double.

Hornblower

I have nearly finished my first ever read of a CS Forrester book in the famous Hornblower series. There hasn’t been a “splice the mainbrace” yet. Mind you I am reading it with a handy laptop nearby to look up such phrases as “wear the ship” and beware “stays” and the dreaded weevils.

All good fun. My excuse is that I am still in the convalescing stage of the flu, however, I have to admit that it is getting more enjoyable.

about that snow

Alright – so it has snowed – but it is only an inch thus far.
