Still on politics and the power of words today. I have to write something about the bill before the House of Lords on The Right to Die. It is all very well for churches in their corporate sense to side with the hospice movement in saying that no-one needs to die in pain. Sadly, practice tells us otherwise, and there must be many people who have seen members of their family denied access to hospice care because of cost or location. There must also be many ordinary ministers of churches, like myself, who are uncomfortably aware of the dichotomy.
Perhaps that means I should be working flat out to ensure proper hospice care in my own area. Perhaps we all should. A good thought to have on Armistice Day.
