Best combination of weather yesterday: damp and wet here and sunny at Wimbledon. The grunting debate is a non-starter as far as I am concerned. I have never liked it, and sexist or not the women are definitely worse than the men. Many women players shriek and scream noisily. I stuck to watching the Mens’ singles.
It is a long time since I have played tennis but I still remember the fun of playing on grass courts. The whole ambiance forms part of the memory: the smell of newly mown grass; the squeaking of tennis shoes as one slips and slides on the court; the dull thwack of the bounce and the beautiful colour. I have to try not to support any particular player as I get too involved mentally. It takes me right back to club competitions and school matches. Not good for the blood pressure. So it goes without saying that I cannot cope with watching Andy Murray.
