Stormy Day Out

We took the campervan to the Crinan Canal yesterday. At various points along the way it felt as if  the van was going to get blown off the road. Going in such weather is a great antidote to boredom, but I am not sure it is good for the nerves. The weather varied from howling gale to chucking it down with sheets of water then back to scudding black clouds lightened by occasional glimpses of the sun. Him Behind the Wheel kitted himself up in waterproofs to take Misty for a walk along the canal bank. He refused to take her wearing her new red raincoat. Perhaps that was as well, it could have acted like a sail and she could have ended up in the Dorus Mhor.

The really good thing is returning to a snug home with the central heating on!

Fifty?

Have just finished reading Oh to be fifty again again. (Currently out of print – the book, not me.) It is one of the books I read every few years, and it is amazing how there is always something new to find. My copy was purchased secondhand through ebay and is rather brown and weathered, but perfectly readable nonetheless. It is amazing how many authors I read who are connected with each other. Eda LeShan (Oh to be fifty……..) is always quoting May Sarton; and the latter often refers to the former. They are, or rather were, friends in life. Now they have become friends of mine.

Carbon footprint

I am not sure what happens to one’s carbon footprint when the only place to get a replacement part is America. It is the little roller wheel to fit on the bottom of the shower, in case you are wondering.

News feeds

In the last couple of weeks I doubt I have watched the TV news more than half a time. Haven’t even caught the radio updates. I am looking online and catching up every couple of days with a newspaper.

What have I missed?

(By the way, Happy Autumn.)

Duality

Now what do I tell you about today? The problem with Facebook and BT Broadband? Or the new discussion group at church last night. Now the BT problem meant I lost a lot of my crops on FarmVille, but the discussion group left me with an image which sent me to bed smiling. Here it is.

Right brain, left brain

Came across this recently. Which way do you see it spinning?
With me it is both – at least either/or.
Trust me to be like that.

Time

Oh it’s a long long time…..from September to April
And the rain goes on…..
And on….
And horizontally.

Strictly

I have got four “episodes” of Strictly Come Dancing on the recorder or downloaded to the PC. I wonder if this means I am not really all that interested?

Special Days

Today is notable for a rather ancient anniversary – engagement. Ancient, because my own is 45yrs ago today but also because it rarely happens these days.

I remember the kindness of relatives, friends and neighbours in giving presents for the “bottom drawer.” And the excitement I had when I regularly opened the drawer and slowly went through linen and china etc, imagining what it would really be like to be married and in a home of our own.  Tissue paper was carefully unwrapped, the goods stacked on the floor and I simply gazed in disbelief that it was all really happening. In those far off days, couples scrimped, saved and worried to find the wherewithall. Nowadays, for many, it is simply cheaper to move in together and then think about the legal commitments afterwards.

Nowadays I can hardly get my engagement ring on!! Note to self – don’t be lazy, take it to be enlarged.

They all fall down

This time I fell over the dog. The good news is that something broke my fall. The bad news is that it was the shower screen. So what will today bring?
