Presbytery

The Presbytery papers popped through my letterbox yesterday and I diligently started to read them. Perhaps that is why I ended up sleeping most of the afternoon away.

The Little Wave

There is a story told which bears thinking about…..

There is this little wave happily bobbing along in the sea, and then he suddenly sees that the waves all crash onto the shore. Understandably he gets really upset. Then along comes another little wave who asks what is wrong. The first little wave says, “We're all going to crash!” But the second little wave says, “It's OK – you don't understand, we're all part of the ocean.”

I like that idea…….

Hurricane Katrina

The news from New Orleans and surrounding area is horrific tonight. What is so awful is seeing people descend into chaos and helplessness in such a rich and powerful country. Somehow it makes it all the more frightening, especially seeing large numbers of poor black Americans caught up in the aftermath of the hurricane and flooding.

Words are not enough…..
Lord have mercy….

On the doorstep

It is amazing what is practically on the doorstep here at Dalamory. Yesterday's adventure was a trip to Inverawe Smokery and Country Park. Highlights include: freshly baked scone, seeing a falcon up close, peaches in armagnac from the deli, and a new forest walk. And all by royal appointment.

Day Off

Despite having been retired for five months it still feels as if Monday should be a Day Off.

Come to think of it, why don't I have a Day Off anyway?

Reconciliation

From the Magnificat of Reconciliation – Miryam of N azareth bt Ann Johnson

You are the gentle one who reaches out in tenderness
     from age to age
to caress with your hand the heads of those
     who bend their necks.
With powerful arms you embrace each of us.
The proud hearts that we hold out to you,
     you break and scatter.
You pull down the structures and fantasies with which we fortify ourselves,
and you teach us the simple things.
When we are hungry you fill us with good things.
When we are glutted you teach us patience
that we may come hungry to your table……
We remember your tenderness as we walk….
     For you are Yahweh
     in whom we trust.

Coming and Going

The plumber arrived, the plumber left, the plumber arrived again, the plumber left again. However, in the interim he did do some of the jobs that needed to be done. We now have a happily working shower and gas hob.

It all sounds a bit like a cricket test match. Well – what do you think of England making Australia follow on then?

Time marches on

Took my son to the podiatry clinic at the hospital yesterday. It turns out that the podiatrist was in his class at Hawick High School. I did enjoy seeing the expression on said son's face. He recovered quite quickly and afterwards claimed that of course he was not bothered, that stage would only come when such people were younger than him.

Then I realised how it made me feel as the mother!
