Webcam at last

After minimal faffing about I installed the webcam today and have had video-chats with a couple of friends. Amazing what new technology can do – and all for £8.99 courtesy of PCWorld. Misty has been introduced to a new friend online and was only a little puzzled at why the computer was suddenly able to say her name.

Personality Test

Found this personality test courtesty of http://www.patthechooks.blogspot.com/ Of course it is only to be followed up by those who have time to spend / spare / waste / enjoy…… (Take your pick.)

Cannot fathom out how to paste in the results of my test, but I seem to be a benevolent experiencer. However, I shall need more time to assess what that means. For now – it is lunch then puppy walking!

What is real?

OK – I give up. There is a series that has just finished on BBC TV called Hotel On Sea. Was it real, or was it a sit-com, or was it a wind-up? The Edinburgh Evening News simply deals in further ambiguity saying:

Hotel On Sea, (BBC1, Monday), on the other hand, deserves its 7.30pm slot. Set in the run-down President Hotel in Blackpool, it takes the reality-TV-meets-comedy baton from The Office and runs with it. A collection of bizarre yet believable characters make this underplayed sitcom one of the best on the box at the moment.

A search on Google has been fruitless, other than to discover that there is a real President Hotel in Blackpool and it gets bad reports.  There is supposedly a “documentary” in the programme listings, but the url doesn’t work. I sat and watched the half-hour programme most weeks, and could not believe that such people really existed. Then, by the end, found myself warming to them. Will there be media careers for these folks I found myself asking – akin to Ben Fogle from Castaways, or Jeremy Spake, from Airport.

Somebody else out there must have been watching it as well. Go on, put me out of my misery.

Not being anxious

Told the congregations about my Lenten vow – to give up anxiety – and was amazed to find many people wanting to join in. Perhaps it is a symptom of our society nowadays, or maybe we are rendered overly anxious by seeing so much of the bad side of life via the media. Maybe we should start an alternative AA group – Anxieties Anonymous – on second thoughts it would be better to be called Anxieties Non-anonymous. I’ll let you know how it goes from time to time.

Today is another beautiful, bright day here in Dalamory. Him Behind the Wheel has put out the garden loungers to warm in the sun, Misty and Fox are both enjoying the foretaste of spring, and I am taking a long time to decide whether to make coffee or the beds. I suspect the coffee will win.

Today is the first Sunday in Lent.
I am going to do my best to give up being anxious.

Hope I have made the right decision………

The Weather and stuff

Still no snow; still is the word……no wind to speak of either. Dalmally, it seems, is the place to be at the moment.

Here we are on a Saturday and I am taking two services again tomorrow. The sermon and service sheets are all ready but still have the prayers to do. I am looking forward to leading communion at St Conan’s – a most unusual church on the shores of Loch Awe, and St Jame’s – an episcopal church further down the loch. The main thing is to remember to wear thermals!

Yesterday

Yesterday the sun was shining – alpine weather again.
It was great to sit outside. No such luck today; I am
waiting to see if the snow is going to reach us.

Good News

Our local library van service has been spared the axe by Argyll and Bute Council. At least they have seen sense. The librarian/van driver is a cheerful soul who fulfills a real social function. He dispenses good humour as well as good books. To some older and disabled people he gives their main point of contact during the day. I first started using the service when my disabled son lived at home, and it was one of those little things that really made a difference to the day. Said son enjoyed the male to male banter. As a busy minister I rarely had time to visit the library in town so I appreciated the monthly turnover of reading material too.

Nowadays, I count as one of the elderly myself. Funny thought that…… still, I suppose I had better get used to it. The only alternative is to be dead.
