A song of peace

From Praying for the dawn……..

This is my song, O God of all the nations
A song of peace, for your land and for mine.
This is my home, the country where my heart is.
Here grew my hopes and dreams for humankind.
But other hearts in other lands are beating.
And dreams are everywhere as true as mine.

…………O hear my song, O God of all the nations
A song of peace, for your land and for mine.

Gippy tummy

Sore innards yesterday necessitated staying close to the loo. So I enjoyed watching the start of the cricket. England’s 347 for 6 pleased me greatly. I am even getting to understand some of the cricket lingo. Actually, I played cricket at school, but never made the team, though I was once reserve and allowed to fill in the score pad. Happy Days

Another Quiz

According to What European City?…I belong in Dublin.

Don’t know about the pub crawl, though I do like the non-smoking bars in the city. Same goes for Scotland, it is a pleasure to go in for a meal without getting smoked over. Thanks to Storyteller for the link.

You Belong in Dublin
Friendly and down to earth, you want to enjoy Europe without snobbery or pretensions.
You’re the perfect person to go wild on a pub crawl… or enjoy a quiet bike ride through the old part of town.

Exhibits

Went to Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum yesterday. It was fun to be back in a place of long ago memories. The refurbishment has certainly been a success. The place was full of people, loads of young adults and children. They made a great exhibit in themselves.

Law

Is there some law which says that the dishwasher and microwave/combi have to break down in the same week? Both of them terminally, I am afraid.

My kind of joke

Thanks to Old Horsetail for this joke. I only recently discovered his blog and it has already given me some good laughs.

Two buffalo are standing on the range when a passing motorist sees them.

He says to his wife, “Those are the mangiest, scroungiest, most moth-eaten miserable beasts I’ve ever seen.”

So one buffalo says to the other: “I think I just heard a discouraging word.”

Clear skies

Showed Son No 3 the delights of google earth yesterday. What we found odd is that there is detail of a previous home in Sheshader on the Isle of Lewis, showing the garage, garden and surrounding moorland and sea. His old primary school is shown in similar detail. However, his existing house in Oban (a town of around 10,000 people) cannot be seen. Oban it seems is obscured and fuzzy. We came to the conclusion that it was to do with clear skies over Lewis and habitual grey rain over Oban. Obviously, the satellite images have not been updated in the past few weeks when it has been clear and warm. The Oban webcam is worth checking out.

You have probably already found the google earth website – if not it is here.

Reading

I have been reading a book based around the 1st World War. The Flowers of the Field, by Sarah Harrison. It has stirred almost faded memories of two maiden great-aunts – Daisy and Gertie. I can’t help wondering what their stories were. As a child of five or six I was far too young to understand what their lives may have been like. However, it has made me determined to do some research on that branch of the family; though I shall wait for darker nights and cooler days.
