How to survive

Read a comment this week from someone who was talking about how to survive life. Surviving is not about how you stand up to it. nor how you bend with it…..rather it is about how you bounce. I suppose that applies to falling off a perch and bouncing or bounding along with a joyful spirit. Anyway, I like the sentiment.

Glen Etive

Spent an overnight wild camping at Glen Etive…..the place where Ian Fleming (of Bond fame) grew up. It is only twenty miles away as the heron flies. But it is clear that the camcorder will take a lot of learning!

Tell me what you think……

Another pound

What with all the video-clips and new skills to learn, I forgot to give a report on slimming club this week. Another pound lost and plenty of encouragement. It is salutory to hear other people’s experiences: their successes and failures…..it gives a challenge to everyone to try and do better. The best of all was the admission from the leader that she had “taken her eye off the ball” and put on a good few pounds herself. What joy and delight to realise that we are all human. So we are effectively all taking control, planning and organising food to be good quality, fresh and full of variety.

It is a long road ahead, but worth it.

Becoming a star

Misty has seen yesterday’s video of herself and has decided that she wants to become a film star. That means that I need to become a director and producer. Amazing the number of roles we take on in life.

Talking of new homes….

Home

Home to Dalamory today. They say that home is where the heart is and I count myself very fortunate to have found such an ideal place to be retired. It is strange really, because I have moved around a lot in my lifetime – some nineteen times in all. Anyway it is good to feel settled. Now I need to take myself in hand……the two years getting used to my new status in life is past……so am I just going to fritter away the time or do some serious writing? Short notes on a blog and private journalling are fair enough, but it would be challenging to finish either one of the part completed novels, and I haven’t written a short story for ages. The trouble is that it is too easy to get up gently, play with the dog, have a leisurely breakfast and before you know it it is time for morning coffee. After lunch there is Misty to walk, time to enjoy the countryside, then perhaps a potter in the garden……   See what I mean?

To hang….  today I shall just enjoy. Tomorrow is another day.

Rivers

Lord, we are rivers running to thy sea,
Our waves and ripples all derived from thee:
A nothing we should have, a nothing be,
Except for thee.

Sweet are the waters of thy shoreless sea,
Make sweet our waters that make hast to thee;
Pour in thy sweetness, that ourselves may be
Sweetness to thee.

Botany

One of my happy exam results was to get an A in A-Level Botany…..and that wasn’t yesterday. Anyway, weather permitting, today’s outing is to be a picnic to the Botanic Gardens followed by a visit to the orchid exhibition. Funny really to come to the city for culture and go all verdant.

Back in real time

Back down from on high at the theatre…..sadly it did not live up to its reputation (Tuitti Fruitti) and it was a case of escaping at half-time. Perhaps being perched so dangerously did not help.
