Too late

It is nearly too late to order anything by post to arrive in time for Christmas.

What a relief!  But then there will be the January online sales.

Thanks to Ronni Bennet for directing me to this video:

O Happy Clean Day

I am pleased to report that we now have a functional shower room and electricity in the porch. Him Behind the Wheel has already tried it out.

I am tempted to throw a shower-party!

Cranford

Watched the final episode of BBC’s Cranford last night. Floods of happy tears all round. I was about to say, now if only real life could be as tidy, yet the fiction portrayed death, disease, poverty and injustice as well as more or less happy endings.

Real life indeed.

Nativity

I love the thought behind this poem by Alice Meynell.

No sudden thing of glory and fear
Was the Lord’s coming; but the dear
Slow Nature’s days followed each other
To form the Saviour from His Mother
– One of the children of the year.

Electrician

An electrician has arrived – only 7hrs later than he was expected. I am pleased he is here, but I recognise that working such long hours etc cannot be good for him. Trades-people are becoming increasingly hard to get. Never mind, his intention is to finish his part of the work today. That means that Son #3 can get clean when he comes to stay next week!

New technology

I have been pretty wiped out today – yesterday involved a 300mile round trip by car to collect Him Behind the Wheel. It was also a red-letter day because I replaced my Sony Clie (PDA) and Samsung mobile phone with the latest 02 XDA Stellar. It is all-singing and all-dancing. But I am losing whole chunks of time getting to grips with the technology.

Ah well – I suppose it is keeping the brain exercised.

A challenging read

I am halfway through The Living End by Guy Brown. It is challenging to say the least and seems to be a mixture of philosophy, social science and micro-biology. Take this little snippet for instance: (It is trying to identify the seat of the soul or the self – he talks about the stream of conscious thought)

We can think of the experiencer of these experiences as the self. However, it is not necessary for these experiences to have an experiencer. . . . . . . the idea of an experiencer within the brain experiencing experiences leads to an infinite regress, as how is this internal experiencer to experience experiences without in turn having an experiencer within the internal experiencer!

But don’t let me put you off.

Accidents

Letting the dog out on Monday night turned into quite a comedy act. At least it would have been a) if there had been anyone around to see it (Him Behind the Wheel) is away for a few days; and b) if it had not hurt so much. The temperature was around minus five centigrade and the steps were black ice. I stepped down onto the second step whilst simultaneously lifting the other foot to give Misty a little gentle encouragement to venture forth into the frost – Bang! down I went with a clatter – landing on my arm and my derriere – fortunately the generous padding thereabouts saved me from breaking anything. And at least I now know I have good bones.

Last night, I made sure I had a walkabout phone in my pocket and I kept both feet on the ground. In addition I had liberally sprinkled the steps with salt. But guess who wanted to eat it!
