Again and again

The new shower is leaking again. I have lost count of how many times the plumber has been back and forth with ever more sealant to try and fix it. The trouble is that until it is fixed there is no point laying carpet tiles. In fact, the outside door has still to be finished off, so the hold up is doubled.  However, despite the problems and despite the credit card fraud I am now going to order the tiles over the net. It will take a few weeks probably for them to be delivered, so it is all about hope really.

Palm Sunday

It has been an entertaining Palm Sunday. Church Service was held in the Church Hall, so we were all warm and inclined to linger over our end of service cuppa’s. This afternoon visitors arrived unexpectedly which gave a good excuse to ignore all the things on the To Do list. Near panic this evening, though as it transpired that Lark Rise to Candleford had disappeared off the viewing schedules. It transpires that the crucial final episode is to be transmitted on Easter Sunday. Even better, I found a hint in an interview involving Dawn French, that a further series is planned.

Such are the things of retirement. A gentle kind of life and much appreciated.

Spiritual Wisdom

Have just finished reading Spiritual Wisdom for successful Retirement – Living Forward – by CW Brister. Perhaps I should be well into retirement by now, after all it has been almost three years. However, I think that having to give up work due to ill health brings its own problems, and very few of the books I have read addresses these. That is why this book was so refreshing. It tells things as they are. And would also bear reading again in a few months. In the meantime, I simply continue to Look Forward whilst at the same time remembering to relish and enjoy the graces of each day. Today’s “graces” so far include taking some pictures and video of the dog; relishing taking an executive decision to cut the housework short; and making the most of the sunshine.

Nursery politics

I loved this rhyme from the Times today, reputed to be from a reliable source…

In Downing Street upon the stair

I met a man who wasn’t Blair

He wasn’t Blair again today

I wish that man would go away.

Bugsy

Off to see #1 Son’s #1 in Bugsy Malone at a school production. Watched the DVD last week in readiness. I wonder how P6 and P7 children are going to pull this off. At that age I was busy being the lame boy in the Pied Piper of Hamelin; tricky remembering the lines and balancing on one leg and one crutch.

Credit card fraud

The bad news is that someone has tried to use my credit card fraudulently. The good news is that the Card company were aware enough of my buying habits to query it. The card is now cancelled, but I am left with an uneasy feeling about using cards. To date, I have only heard about such troubles; when they come to your door it feels very different. Anyway, what would I be doing flying round the world first class? Yes, it was almost that much money.

Rugby

Forgot to say how pleased I was that Scotland beat England on Saturday. I have been trying to learn the rules and make sense of it all over the past few months. Nonetheless, I could not watch the last ten minutes in case England equalised 0r worse.

Crufts and the rest

What with Crufts and everything, I thought it was time for a photo of my own favourite dog. Misty has had a perplexing weekend, trying to find where all the dogs barking through the TV speakers are. She has also had an accident with one of her dew claws, so that means a visit to the vet. Poor Misty, she starts to tremble whilst in the waiting room. But then so do I.

A triumph

The performance of Joseph last night was tremendous. Almost a cast of thousands – at least they made a beautiful noise like thousands. Just in case you are interested, the performance was at Linlithgow Parish Church. The enthusiasm of performers and audience was palpable. So much so, that I could not help but think of the sense of the mission of the church was evident. Son No1 plus spouse and two of the children took part and this grandmother was incredibly proud. It made me think of all the years I was involved in music and drama. There is something very special about a live show. So well done everyone.
