Allergies

Forgot to mention yesterday that despite being very careful, I have managed to get “sunned” – nasty little itchy blisters. So it is back to magic cream and antihistamines. Another rest day I think.

Time out

At the last meeting of the Pain Association there was talk about flare-ups and people feeling wiped out after too much rushing around and activity; the expert explained that sometimes a resulting collapse could come several days after the overdoing things. That is precisely what happened to me today. I have tried not to get overly fussed about it, but having to sit still and rest because there is no option can be a good lesson. The only answer is to be grateful that there is freedom and space to take things easy.

Tomorrow is another day.

Community

It has been claimed that a church becomes a community as it joins together in the Eucharist or weekly communion. In most Church of Scotland congregations, communion takes place infrequently. I have worked out that in our local church community is built as the people meet for tea and coffee after the service.

Blessings on the head of those who provide the refreshments week by week.

The best laid plans

Sadly, due to a mix-up I did not meet up with my blogging friend from Australia. It underlines the fact that I shall have to work out how to get my super-duper mobile to do emails. The problem is not with the phone but with me.

Culture

Meeting up with a blog reader in the big city today. She comes all the way from Australia, so it is very exciting to meet up face to face. My pink rucksack is my identifying feature. I am trusting that no-one else is likely to be so daft. The plan is to have lunch and then go to Kelvingrove Art Gallery. There is a lot worth seeing, not least the building itself.

Cute or what?

I know that Misty is a lot tidier and cooler – but I can’t help missing the raggle-taggle scruffbucket.

Swifts

The swifts are back in force. They nest in and around the old school building nearby. For me they are the evocative voice of summer. Their cries and wheeling flight remembered through the years in many different places. They have returned from Africa and will only be here for a few short weeks. Weeks of long daylight and long gloaming……. it is truly summer

Significant day

Today is a significant one in my calendar of special days. Fifteen years since I was inducted into my first post as a parish minister. It is incredible how quickly the years have flown. And there is a poignancy in the fact that I had expected to be working well into my sixties – maybe even to seventy. It is worth noting that we never know what the future holds. I retired early on medical advice, and I am happy to say that I have learnt much about pacing myself and enjoying the moment.

Enjoy your moments today.

God’s heart

Did lots of enjoyable pottering and gardening yesterday in the beautiful sunshine. Always makes me think of the Victorian hymn.

The kiss of the sun for pardon
the song of the birds for mirth;
one is nearer God’s heart in a garden
than anywhere else on earth.

And that is certainly the way it felt.
