Modern tools
I neglected to say that reading Hornblower (CS Forester) necessitates a handy laptop to look up meanings of words and nautical terms. The books have both a rich language and a formidable display of maritime terms.
Prevarication

Extra signs
Two oyster-catchers and five more snowdrops. Oh yes – and no hat needed on the dog-walk. (Either for the dog or me.)
Signs
Three snowdrops, five crocus/es/i – all in places too awkward places to photograph. Unmistakeably signs of an approaching spring. Let us not dwell on the possibility that it won’t actually happen for another two months.
