Countdown to Christmas

I heard on the radio today, that this particular day is the busiest in the year for online shopping. I guess it made me realise that usually I am much more organised for the countdown to Christmas. Things still to do include:

  • Order a set of farmyard birds for my Fontanini Nativity Set
  • Work out how many Christmas Cards I am going to send this year
  • Order the cards from my favoured charities
  • Plan a present list
  • Order up presents or organise to buy locally
  • Make some ginger wine
  • File last year’s Christmas round-robin letters – Yes, really.

But first of all – get in the mood. It’s too early for decorations or Christmas songs/CDs but I could think about getting out some seasonal DVDs to set the scene. What’s your favourite? I fancy It’s a wonderful life. James Stewart, black and white, classic. Mind you, it is a good film to watch actually at Christmas time itself………. still, I can watch it again.

Wish I were so organized. The only reason our tree goes up early is that we love having the enthusiasm and energy of little hands helping. Although our grands aren’t so little anymore, three, five, nine and 11 years old, they are still enthusiastic. I hope they don’t outgrow traveling to our home and helping trim Nana and Baboo’s tree the day after Thanksgiving!

My husband surprised me last Saturday by getting our Christmas tree. It was still November! Way too early! He put it in the stand in water, and placed the lights on it. The cats are enchanted. It will take me probably a week to bring out the boxes of ornaments to decorate it, however.

I understand your having last year’s letters still to file. I have last years Christmas cards in my desk drawer still to answer! Obviously, this year will have to suffice for two years.

I agree with you about the movie. And I also love “Miracle on 34th Street.”

  3. I enjoy your Fontanini items vicariously. Another great film is Miracle on 42nd Street starring Kris Kringle, Maureen O’Hara, and Natalie Wood. For fun, watch ‘When Harry met Sally…again. Dianne

I guess from the comments that we are all agreed that Christmas is for doing things and getting involved………..
