Long distance jiggery pokery

Have spent much of today with my computer being controlled by BT in India…… at least so I presume from the accents. Despite the promises of help, neither the first operative nor her supervisor were able to sort out a glitch in Windows Mail. I am presuming this is just another of the teething problems that Vista has presented us with. Am using Thunderbird for now, but am not yet convinced of its reliability or my ability to use it properly.

Anyone else heard of problems with their email suddenly stopping sending emails, when settings etc have remained the same?

Last time this happened to me it was because somehow the settings had been changed by Demon (no longer my provider). They never really acknowledged that it was their fault – but after tinkering with all my settings they had me set them back to what they had been. (I had them all written down)
I use Googlemail now, and Firefox as my browser – wonderfully trouble-free except when recipients of mail find it in their spam folder!

As it turned out, it seems that BT had to alter some of their settings in response to a Vista update! I am going to have to rant some more about that too. Hope I don’t appear too much of a geek.

Ah vista issues.Ive only got vista on my laptop still using XP on the main beast.I spoke to one of the IT bods in my work who reckons it will take at least a year for the companies to catch up and provide new drivers, patches updates etc.
This is because mocrosoft didn’t release some base code or something to enable them to work on updates,it’s all about digital rights management and security Microsoft are trying to keep the hackers at bay.
Bit of a bummer i have about 10 progammes plus my printer incompatable with Vista a real pain.

Sorry to hear you are having problems too. The worst thing for me is that I cannot synchronise my PDA with my main computer any more. Ah well…that’s the Microsoft life for you.
