Clear skies

Showed Son No 3 the delights of google earth yesterday. What we found odd is that there is detail of a previous home in Sheshader on the Isle of Lewis, showing the garage, garden and surrounding moorland and sea. His old primary school is shown in similar detail. However, his existing house in Oban (a town of around 10,000 people) cannot be seen. Oban it seems is obscured and fuzzy. We came to the conclusion that it was to do with clear skies over Lewis and habitual grey rain over Oban. Obviously, the satellite images have not been updated in the past few weeks when it has been clear and warm. The Oban webcam is worth checking out.

You have probably already found the google earth website – if not it is here.

We’ve come to the conclusion that google earth is about five years out of date. My previous, previous car is parked beside my brother’s house at the moment!!So perhaps Rab’s house wasn’t there when the current satellite pictures were transmitted.
